PCB Chief Issues Stark Warning to Players: “Won’t Have a Place in Team…”

In a bold move aimed at revitalizing Pakistani cricket, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has declared a comprehensive restructuring plan in response to the team’s underwhelming performances. This initiative comes after discussions with key stakeholders, including the head coaches of both the white-ball and red-ball teams, Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie.

Naqvi revealed that Kirsten and Gillespie will be integrated into the selection committee alongside former players Mohammad Yousuf and Asad Shafiq, as well as the current captains of both formats. This strategic collaboration is intended to foster a more unified approach to team management and selection.

One of the central tenets of Naqvi’s announcement is the implementation of a zero-tolerance policy towards disciplinary issues within the team. In light of recent allegations concerning star pacer Shaheen Afridi’s conduct towards coach Gary Kirsten, Naqvi emphasized the necessity for unity and warned against any form of groupism among players.

“There will be no compromise on discipline. Disciplinary players will not have a place in the team,” Naqvi stated, underscoring the importance of maintaining team integrity.

The PCB has also prioritized player fitness in the selection criteria, mandating that all players undergo fitness tests every three months. Only those meeting high fitness standards will be eligible for selection, particularly when applying for No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to participate in foreign leagues.

Naqvi assured that Kirsten and Gillespie would be given complete autonomy in their roles, fostering an environment where they can implement their vision for the team. “I have full confidence in them. Hope both will give the best results,” Naqvi added.

To further strengthen the pipeline of talent, all players will be required to participate in domestic cricket. Selectors have been instructed to closely monitor player involvement in domestic competitions before making national team selections

In addition to these changes, plans are underway to enhance the high-performance centres across the country, with new facilities set to be established in Islamabad and Peshawar. Gillespie and Kirsten will oversee these initiatives to promote grassroots cricket and improve the overall standard of the game in Pakistan.

This comprehensive overhaul aims to restore Pakistan’s cricketing stature and create a cohesive, disciplined, and high-performing national team.
