Shocking Incident in MLC: Batter Hits Bowler’s Head in Scary Moment
In a dramatic turn of events at the Major League Cricket (MLC), fast-bowler Carmi le Roux experienced a frightening incident when he was struck on the head by a powerful shot from batter Ryan Rickleton. The unsettling moment occurred during the second over of the match between the San Francisco Unicorns and the Seattle Orcas.
Le Roux, who was bowling for the San Francisco Unicorns, was caught off guard when Rickleton’s shot veered directly towards him. Despite wearing a helmet, the impact left le Roux’s face severely bloodied. Remarkably, the bowler was conscious and able to walk off the field unaided, much to the relief of everyone present.
The incident happened as le Roux was delivering his third over of the game. Rickleton, a left-handed batter, aimed for a straight shot but inadvertently directed the ball straight at the bowler. Medical staff swiftly attended to le Roux, and he was promptly removed from the field.
Following le Roux’s departure, former New Zealand and current USA all-rounder Corey Anderson stepped in to complete the over. Despite the setback, the San Francisco Unicorns managed to restrict the Seattle Orcas to 142 runs while defending a total of 165. Liam Plunkett, the 39-year-old former England pacer, stood out with impressive bowling figures of 3/26 in four overs.
The Seattle Orcas’ misfortunes continued as they faced another defeat two days later against the Los Angeles Knight Riders. This latest loss left the Orcas languishing at the bottom of the MLC season two table. Their current performance contrasts sharply with last season, when they finished at the top of the table.
With only one win from five games, the Seattle Orcas are struggling this season. The defending champions, MI New York, are also facing difficulties, sitting fifth and currently outside the playoff spots.
The MLC season started on July 5, 2024, and the final is scheduled for July 28.
