Team India Arrives in Sri Lanka for T20I Series Under New Leadership

Gambhir and Suryakumar Lead New Era in Indian Cricket

The Indian men’s cricket team, led by new head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Suryakumar Yadav, has arrived in Sri Lanka for a three-match T20I series. The team, recently crowned T20 world champions, received a warm welcome in Pallekele after a brief layover in Colombo. The squad, consisting of 15 players and support staff, left Mumbai on Monday following a pre-departure press conference addressed by Gambhir and BCCI’s chairman of selectors, Ajit Agarkar.

Upcoming T20I and ODI Matches

India will play the first T20I on July 27, followed by matches on July 28 and 30. The series will be played in Pallekele, after which the team will travel to Colombo for three One-day Internationals scheduled for August 2, 4, and 7. The Sri Lankan squad for the series has yet to be announced.

Enthusiastic Arrival and Team Composition

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video on social media platform ‘X,’ showing the players enjoying their journey from Mumbai to Pallekele via Colombo. The team, which includes vice-captain Shubman Gill and other young talents, will compete without veterans Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja, who retired from T20Is following India’s T20 World Cup victory in the Caribbean.

New Captain and Experienced Players

Suryakumar Yadav was recently appointed as the new T20 captain, succeeding all-rounder Hardik Pandya due to fitness concerns and team management feedback. The squad features a mix of experienced players like Sanju Samson, Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh, alongside emerging stars, aiming to continue India’s winning momentum under the fresh leadership of Gambhir and Suryakumar.
