Alex De Minaur Poised for Paris Olympics After Hip Injury Recovery

Australian Tennis Star Set to Compete in Paris 2024

Australia’s Alex De Minaur has declared himself ready for the Paris 2024 Olympics after overcoming a hip injury that derailed his Wimbledon campaign earlier this year.

De Minaur, currently ranked sixth in the world, had to withdraw from his Wimbledon quarter-final match against Novak Djokovic due to a cartilage tear in his hip. This injury, sustained in his fourth-round victory over Arthur Fils, had raised concerns about his availability for the upcoming Olympic Games.

Missing the Tokyo 2020 Olympics due to a COVID-19 diagnosis, De Minaur is eager to fulfill his Olympic aspirations in Paris. In a social media post on Monday, he expressed his excitement and commitment to representing Australia.

“To finally be able to represent Australia in the Olympics is a dream come true,” said De Minaur. “I’m very passionate when I play for my country and wear the green and gold, so this is another one of those moments. I’m extremely excited to lace up for Paris 2024.”

De Minaur will lead an Australian tennis team that includes notable players such as Alexei Popyrin, Ellen Perez, Matthew Ebden, John Peers, Olivia Gadecki, Ajla Tomljanovic, Daria Saville, and Rinky Hijikata. The Olympic tennis tournament is scheduled to take place on the clay courts of Roland Garros from July 27 to August 4.

Having cracked the top 10 in the world rankings for the first time this year, De Minaur demonstrated his potential on clay by reaching the French Open quarter-finals in June.

“I showed that I’m perfectly capable,” De Minaur remarked at the end of his French Open run. “The Olympics will be best-of-three sets, and there’s no reason why I can’t put on a good showing, perform, and win matches.”
