Formula One Decides Against Extending Points Beyond Top 10 Finishers

FIA Confirms No Changes to F1 Points System

The FIA announced on Tuesday that Formula One will maintain its current points system, opting not to extend rewards beyond the top 10 finishers.

In April, the Formula One commission, which includes representatives from all teams and major stakeholders, postponed the decision on whether to distribute points more widely. The commission, led by Formula One CEO Stefano Domenicali and FIA single-seater director Nikolas Tombazis, reconvened in London and unanimously agreed to keep the existing system unchanged.

As of now, all teams except Sauber have earned points after 13 of the 24 races this season. The top four teams are significantly ahead, while Aston Martin, Red Bull, and Haas are in a close battle for fifth to seventh places. The remaining teams lag further behind.

In addition to the points system decision, the meeting resulted in an agreement to increase the minimum weight for cars and drivers by 2kg to enhance driver well-being.

Looking ahead, the 2026 pre-season testing will include nine test days spread across three events.
