Olympics 2024: Challenging Draws for Indian Tennis Players
Sumit Nagal Faces Tough French Test, While Bopanna-Balaji Draw French Duo at Paris 2024 Olympics
India’s top singles player, Sumit Nagal, faces a formidable opponent in his Paris Olympics campaign. Nagal will start his tournament against French player Moutet Corentin, who he previously defeated in April. Both players have a 2-2 head-to-head record, making this a closely contested match. If Nagal emerges victorious, he could face Australian star Alex di Minaur in the second round. Di Minaur, ranked sixth in the world, had to withdraw from his Wimbledon quarterfinal due to a hip injury, but he remains a strong competitor.
In men’s doubles, Indian duo Rohan Bopanna and N Sriram Balaji have drawn the French team of Fabien Reboul and Edouard Roger-Vasselin. Bopanna is familiar with Roger-Vasselin from their previous ATP Tour encounters. This Olympics presents Bopanna with a significant opportunity, as it could be his last chance to win an Olympic medal. He narrowly missed out on a medal with Sania Mirza at the 2016 Rio Games, finishing fourth in the mixed doubles event.
