Lando Norris Reflects on Hungarian GP Controversy: “It Was a Stupid Thing to Do

Lando Norris Admits Missteps in Hungarian GP: “I Was a Bit Silly”

Lando Norris has expressed regret over his handling of team orders during the Hungarian Grand Prix, where he was criticized for not allowing McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri to pass earlier. Speaking before the Belgian Grand Prix, Norris described his actions as “silly” and acknowledged that he was “not too proud” of the way the situation unfolded.

Norris noted that his reluctance to move aside overshadowed Piastri’s historic win and McLaren’s impressive one-two finish. He admitted that the extended team orders conversation with his race engineer, which ultimately led to a direct instruction to “do it now,” could have been managed better.

Reflecting on the situation, Norris regretted that his actions detracted from Piastri’s achievement and the team’s performance. He concluded that, if faced with a similar situation in the future, he would immediately let his teammate pass to avoid such complications.

Heading into the Belgian Grand Prix, Norris trails Max Verstappen by 76 points. Despite the recent challenges, Norris remains focused on the championship and expects strong support, particularly in Belgium.
