Alpine F1 Team Principal Bruno Famin to Depart at End of August, Focus Shifts to Broader Renault Motorsport Projects
Alpine F1 Boss Bruno Famin Set to Leave Team at End of August
Transition in Alpine Leadership as Renault Shifts Focus
Alpine Formula One team principal Bruno Famin is set to step down from his role at the end of August, transitioning to focus entirely on Renault Group’s other motorsport activities. The announcement was made during a press conference on Friday, where Famin detailed the future direction for Alpine and Renault’s motorsport divisions.
Famin, who took over as team principal after Otmar Szafnauer’s departure during the Belgian Grand Prix last year, will continue his association with Renault from the Viry-Chatillon base. Renault’s new strategy includes halting engine production for the Alpine F1 team and reallocating resources towards developing new technologies for the brand.
Famin explained, “The project… is to reallocate the resources from one side to another, one side being the development of the Formula 1 power unit, which is being made in Viry, to dedicate those resources and skills to developing new technologies for the brand, for the new product of the brand.”
As part of this transition, Alpine F1 will likely purchase power units instead of developing their own, with a reported potential agreement with Mercedes for 2026. This shift aims to streamline operations and focus on broader technological advancements within Renault.
The team also recruited Flavio Briatore as an executive advisor in June to help improve their standings. Despite the challenging start to the season, Alpine remains committed to enhancing performance and competitiveness in the Formula One arena.
Renault’s motorsport activities extend beyond Formula One, including participation in the World Endurance Championship (WEC), Formula E, and the 2025 Dakar Rally via the Dacia brand.
