“Arsenal Signs Italian Defender Riccardo Calafiori”
Arsenal have signed Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna on a “long-term contract,” as announced by the Premier League club on Monday. While the exact fee was not disclosed, British media reports suggest that Calafiori, 22, has joined Arsenal on a five-year deal valued at £42 million ($54 million) following his participation with Italy at Euro 2024.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed enthusiasm about the new addition: “We welcome Riccardo and his family to Arsenal. He is a great signing and provides us with significant strength to bolster our defense. Riccardo is a big personality with specific skills that will enhance our chances of winning major trophies.”
Arteta highlighted Calafiori’s recent development and impressive performances for both Bologna and Italy. “We’re excited to work with Riccardo, integrate him into the squad, and support him in the coming years.”
Calafiori becomes Arsenal’s second major signing of the summer transfer window, following the permanent acquisition of David Raya from Brentford. The Gunners aim to improve on their runners-up finish from the previous season, where they narrowly missed out on the Premier League title to Manchester City.
