“PCB Contemplates Appointing Waqar Younis as Director of Cricket”

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi is considering appointing former captain Waqar Younis as the director of cricket affairs. A reliable source within the board informed PTI that Naqvi, inspired by other national boards, aims to have a former player manage all cricket-related matters. “Waqar Younis is a top candidate to be given complete responsibility for overseeing men’s cricket, including coordinating with the two foreign head coaches, national selectors, and domestic cricket departments,” the source stated.

The PCB chief intends to grant the former fast bowler full authority to manage men’s cricket affairs as director, while some responsibilities might be shared with other former players. “Naqvi wants to decentralize authority, particularly concerning cricket issues. In the future, even international cricket schedules and related matters would be overseen by the director of cricket,” the source added.

Currently, Naqvi’s focus is on preparations for hosting the Champions Trophy and other administrative decisions within the board. “As the federal interior minister, Naqvi believes it is only fair that cricket matters are handled by specialists rather than just administrators,” the source continued.

The director of cricket would also have the authority to appoint other former players for assistance. Waqar Younis, 52, who resides in Australia with his family, has previously served as Pakistan’s head coach and bowling coach in separate tenures and is willing to offer his services to the national team again.
