Andy Murray to Skip Paris 2024 Olympic Singles, Focuses on Doubles Only
"Andy Murray Shifts Focus to Doubles for Paris 2024, Marks Final Olympics Appearance"
Andy Murray has announced his withdrawal from the singles event at the Paris 2024 Olympics, opting to compete solely in doubles alongside Dan Evans. The 37-year-old British tennis star, who has faced multiple injuries throughout his career, including a hip replacement in 2019 and recent spinal surgery, revealed that these Olympics will mark his final appearance in competitive tennis.
Murray’s decision follows his withdrawal from the singles draw at Wimbledon earlier this month, where he played only one match in doubles with his brother Jamie. “I’ve decided to pull out of the singles to focus on the doubles with Dan,” Murray said. “Our practice sessions have been excellent, and we’re playing well together. I’m eager to start and represent Great Britain one last time.”
This announcement came just before the tennis tournament’s draw, with the competition set to begin on Saturday. Murray, who won gold medals in singles at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympics, remains the only player to secure two Olympic singles titles.
