Sourav Ganguly Reflects: “Silencing Critics with Rohit Sharma’s Success”
Ganguly defends decision as Rohit leads India to T20 World Cup glory.

Former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has spoken out against critics who questioned his decision to appoint Rohit Sharma as India’s T20 captain, pointing out their silence after India’s T20 World Cup victory under Rohit’s leadership.
In an interview with Bangla newspaper AajKaal, Ganguly expressed satisfaction over Rohit’s achievements since taking over the captaincy from Virat Kohli after the 2021 T20 World Cup.
“I faced criticism when I chose Rohit as captain. Now, after winning a trophy under his leadership, no one is criticizing me. Everyone seems to have forgotten that I appointed him,” Ganguly remarked.
During Ganguly’s tenure as BCCI chief, Kohli announced his decision to step down as T20 captain, paving the way for Rohit to take charge in November 2021.
Under Rohit’s captaincy, India has enjoyed significant success, including winning the T20 World Cup and becoming the first captain to achieve 50 wins in the T20 format. Rohit has led India to victory in 50 out of 62 matches under his captaincy, marking a remarkable tenure despite earlier disappointments in other formats.
