“Batter Scores 5 Runs Without Overthrow in Ireland vs Zimbabwe Test; Video Goes Viral”
In an unusual moment during the one-off Test between Ireland and Zimbabwe, a batter managed to score 5 runs by running between the wickets without an overthrow. On Day 4 of the match, with Ireland at 74/5 and chasing a target of 185 runs, Andy McBrine played a drive on the off-side off the bowling of Richard Ngarava. The ball sped toward the boundary, prompting Zimbabwe’s Tendai Chatara to chase it down.
Despite Chatara’s efforts to prevent the ball from crossing the boundary, his momentum carried him over the rope, making it difficult for him to quickly return the ball. By the time he retrieved and threw it back, McBrine and Lorcan Tucker had managed to complete 5 runs.
In the match, McBrine and Tucker added 96 runs for the sixth wicket before Tucker was dismissed by Blessing Muzarabani with Ireland still 41 runs short of victory. Mark Adair then played a crucial role, scoring 24 not out and hitting the winning boundary, as Ireland finished at 158-6, securing victory with more than a day to spare.
McBrine was named Player of the Match for his impressive performance, taking 7 wickets for 75 runs across Zimbabwe’s two innings. Ireland’s captain, Andy Balbirnie, praised McBrine, stating, “McBrine is the guy you want to put in your cricket bag and take everywhere. Exceptionally skillful and deserved the award today.”
This victory marked Ireland’s first home Test win after previously losing their first seven matches and followed their historic Test win against Afghanistan in March.
