Spanish Football Federation Chief Receives Two-Year Ban: Report

Just days after Spain’s victory in the Euro 2024 final, the Spanish football federation (RFEF) has been embroiled in a new scandal, with president Pedro Rocha receiving a two-year suspension. This decision comes from Spain’s Administrative Tribunal of Sport (TAD), which reported that Rocha overstepped his authority by dismissing the federation’s general secretary, Andreu Camps.
Rocha was appointed as RFEF president in April, succeeding the disgraced Luis Rubiales, who was forced to resign in September 2023 after controversially kissing player Jenni Hermosa during the Women’s World Cup medal ceremony.

Both Rocha and Rubiales are currently under investigation in connection with a corruption case linked to the federation during Rubiales’ presidency. The TAD’s ruling could also hinder Rocha’s participation in the upcoming presidential elections scheduled for September.
According to the tribunal’s decision, Rocha is banned from holding any position within a sporting federation during his suspension. Reports indicate that Rocha plans to appeal the decision and will seek to remain in office while the appeal is processed, potentially allowing him to run for re-election in the fall.
The National Sports Council (CSD), which oversees the TAD, has not commented on the situation when approached for a statement.
As the Spanish football community navigates this latest controversy, the implications of Rocha’s ban and the ongoing investigations continue to raise questions about the future leadership of the RFEF.
