Charith Asalanka to Lead Sri Lanka in T20 Series Against India

Asalanka Replaces Hasaranga as Sri Lanka Prepares for Three-Match Series

Sri Lanka has appointed all-rounder Charith Asalanka as the new captain of their Twenty20 team for the upcoming three-match series against India, set to commence this weekend. The 27-year-old succeeds Wanindu Hasaranga, who resigned from the captaincy following Sri Lanka’s failure to advance to the Super Eight stage of the recent T20 World Cup in the U.S. and West Indies.

The T20 series between Sri Lanka and India will take place in Pallekele, starting on Saturday. This will be followed by three one-day internationals.

Leadership Changes in Sri Lankan Cricket

Alongside the T20 captaincy change, Kusal Mendis will lead Sri Lanka’s ODI team, while Dhananjaya de Silva continues as the Test captain. De Silva and veteran Angelo Mathews are not part of the 16-man T20 squad, although Hasaranga remains included.

India will also have a new T20 captain, Suryakumar Yadav, who took over after Rohit Sharma’s retirement following India’s successful World Cup campaign.
