“Gautam Gambhir All Smiles at First ‘Suspense-Filled’ Best Fielder Ceremony”
Star Indian batter Rinku Singh was named ‘Fielder of the Series’ following India’s 3-0 T20I series victory over Sri Lanka. The series win marked a successful beginning for newly appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir.
In the third T20I, Rinku Singh’s crucial fielding efforts played a significant role in India’s triumph. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video from the post-match medal ceremony, which took place in the dressing room.
Coach T Dilip initially announced Ravi Bishnoi, Rinku Singh, and Riyan Parag as the contenders for the award. However, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate presented the ‘Fielder of the Series’ medal to Singh.
India set a target of 138 runs in their innings, with contributions from Shubman Gill (39 runs off 37 balls), Riyan Parag (26 runs off 18 balls), and Washington Sundar (25 runs off 18 balls), ending at 137/9.
Sri Lanka’s Kusal Perera (46 runs off 34 balls) and Kusal Mendis (43 runs off 41 balls) helped their side reach 137/8, sending the game into a Super Over. In the Super Over, Sri Lanka managed only 2 runs, and Suryakumar Yadav secured the win for India with a boundary off the first ball.
Washington Sundar was named Player of the Match, and Suryakumar Yadav earned the Player of the Series title.
