Jehan Daruvala on Embracing Opportunities Beyond Formula 1

Transition to Formula E

Indian racer Jehan Daruvala, now representing Maserati, has faced challenges in his debut Formula E season, currently positioned at the lower end of the standings. Despite not reaching his ultimate goal of Formula 1, Daruvala has found value in pursuing other racing opportunities.

Reflecting on Formula 2 Journey

Daruvala spent four seasons in Formula 2, the series directly below Formula 1. During this time, he secured four wins and 18 podiums. However, despite his efforts, he was unable to make the jump to Formula 1, especially after parting ways with Red Bull’s junior program. He watched former teammates Lando Norris and Yuki Tsunoda advance to Formula 1 but remains content with his own journey.

Embracing Formula E

Acknowledging the competitiveness of Formula E, Daruvala appreciates the level of competition, stating, “Formula E is probably the most competitive championship I’ve been in terms of teams and drivers.” He remains optimistic about his future in the all-electric series and aims to continue next season.

Looking Ahead

While he hopes to secure a seat in Formula E for the next season, Daruvala is open to exploring other racing series such as IndyCar if necessary. Reflecting on his Formula E experience, he noted the challenge of managing energy during races but feels he’s improving, particularly in qualifying performance.

No Regrets

Daruvala has come to terms with not achieving his childhood dream of Formula 1. He emphasizes that there are many rewarding opportunities in professional racing outside of Formula 1. “I feel I’m good enough to be in F1 but I didn’t win in F2 so I have no regrets,” he said, highlighting his satisfaction with his current path and future possibilities.

Season Review

Looking back on his first season in Formula E, Daruvala acknowledges the difficulties and learning curve. He has shown improvement in his one-lap pace but continues to work on race management. His experienced teammate, Maximilian Gunther, is set to finish in the top-10 of the drivers’ standings, serving as a benchmark for Daruvala’s progress.

By adapting to new challenges and embracing diverse opportunities in motorsport, Jehan Daruvala continues to pursue his passion and aims for success in the evolving landscape of professional racing.
