Kevin Magnussen to Depart Haas at End of 2024 Season; Esteban Ocon Expected to Replace Him

As the 2024 Formula 1 season progresses, it has been confirmed that Kevin Magnussen will part ways with Haas at the season’s end. Esteban Ocon is anticipated to take over Magnussen’s seat for the 2025 season, with the move following Ocon’s departure from Alpine.

Magnussen’s Departure and Haas’ New Line-up

Magnussen’s exit will usher in a new driver line-up for Haas in 2025. Team-mate Nico Hulkenberg will also leave Haas to join Sauber. Haas had previously announced the signing of British teenager Oliver Bearman, and speculation suggests Ocon will be his team-mate.

Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu expressed gratitude towards Magnussen, acknowledging his significant contributions over the years. Magnussen, who joined Haas in 2017 and returned in 2022, has been a cornerstone of the team. His career with Haas includes a notable 2018 season where he finished ninth in the Drivers’ Championship, helping the team achieve its best Constructors’ Championship position of fifth.

Ocon’s Prospects and Magnussen’s Future

Ocon, currently at Alpine, is expected to replace Magnussen at Haas, although no official confirmation has been made yet. This follows Ocon’s collision with team-mate Pierre Gasly at the Monaco Grand Prix, which did not affect Alpine’s decision to part ways with him.

While Magnussen’s future in F1 is uncertain, Haas has hinted at a possible different role for him within the team. Komatsu has expressed interest in retaining Magnussen’s expertise, should he not secure another F1 seat.

Magnussen, currently 16th in the Drivers’ Championship, remains focused on the remainder of the 2024 season. He has indicated openness to discussions about a potential role at Haas if he does not continue in F1.

What Lies Ahead

As Haas prepares for a new era with potentially Ocon and Bearman, the dynamics of the team and driver market will be closely watched. Magnussen’s departure marks the end of an era at Haas, with the team looking to build a fresh, competitive line-up for the 2025 season.
