Lamine Yamal Makes History As Spain Sink France To Reach Euro 2024 Final

Lamine Yamal, 16, became the tournament’s youngest ever goalscorer as Spain defeated France 2-1 in Munich on Tuesday to reach the Euro 2024 final. After falling behind to Randal Kolo Muani’s ninth-minute header from a Kylian Mbappe cross, Spain staged a comeback with two goals in four minutes. Yamal, who turns 17 a day before Sunday’s final against either the Netherlands or England in Berlin, equalized with a superb strike from outside the box, curling a long-range shot into the top corner past Mike Maignan.

Spain took the lead in the 25th minute when Dani Olmo skillfully collected a loose ball and fired a low shot into the net, aided by a deflection off Jules Kounde. Spain then controlled the match with their midfield dominance, frequently holding possession and securing the victory.
As three-time champions, Spain became the first team to win six games at a Euros and are now one match away from a record-breaking fourth title. Despite France’s impressive attacking lineup, they failed to find their rhythm. Coach Didier Deschamps benched Antoine Griezmann for Ousmane Dembele in an attempt to bolster the attack, but it was Yamal who created the first chance of the match, setting up Fabian Ruiz, who missed a close-range header.
Mbappe’s cross allowed Kolo Muani to give France an early lead, capitalizing on defensive errors from Aymeric Laporte and Marc Cucurella. However, Yamal’s brilliance soon equalized the score, making him the youngest scorer in Euro history. Spain’s second goal came from Olmo’s deflected shot, putting them ahead.
France’s best opportunity to force extra time came in the final minutes, but Mbappe’s shot went over the bar, leaving Spain victorious and advancing to the final.
