Mark Wood, renowned as one of the fastest bowlers globally, made history in the second Test against the West Indies at Trent Bridge. Replacing the retired James Anderson in the playing XI, Wood delivered the fastest recorded Test over by an England bowler at home.

In his first over, Wood clocked an impressive 151.1 km/h on his initial delivery to opener Mikyle Louis. He then upped the ante, reaching 154.65 km/h on the second ball. Continuing his blistering pace, Wood bowled deliveries at 152.88 km/h, 148.06 km/h, and a searing yorker at 155.30 km/h. During the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, Wood bowled the tournament’s fastest delivery at 154.74 km/h against New Zealand. He also dominated the top 10 fastest deliveries list, with six balls exceeding 153 km/h. Wood set a record for the fastest T20 over in men’s cricket, averaging 149.02 km/h in a match against Afghanistan. Additionally, he bowled the fastest delivery of the 2019 ODI World Cup, reaching 154 km/h against New Zealand in the final at Lord’s.
