MS Dhoni Breaks Silence on IPL 2025: Will He Continue with CSK?

As discussions continue over the rules for IPL 2025, including player regulations and retention schemes, MS Dhoni has addressed his future with Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Speaking at a promotional event in Hyderabad, Dhoni indicated that he would wait for the finalization of the new rules before making any decisions about his participation. “There is plenty of time to decide. We need to see the outcomes of the decisions on player retention and other regulations. Currently, the decisions are not in our control. Once the rules are finalized, I’ll make a decision, ensuring it’s in the best interest of the team,” Dhoni remarked.

Dhoni’s IPL future has been a topic of intense speculation, particularly following CSK’s decision to appoint Ruturaj Gaikwad as captain for IPL 2024. CSK finished fifth in the tournament and did not qualify for the playoffs. As the league navigates through varied opinions on the mega auction rules, including player retention and the Impact Player rule, the final decision on these matters is awaited. Recently, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah reported that discussions with franchise owners in Mumbai were constructive, and the recommendations will be reviewed by the IPL Governing Council for further assessment.

Dhoni, who led India to victory in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup, also shared his thoughts on current Indian players. He expressed admiration for Jasprit Bumrah, citing him as his favorite bowler. “Choosing a favorite bowler is easy with Bumrah around. Picking a batsman is tougher because we have several talented players. But I don’t have a particular favorite. What matters most is that the team continues to win,” Dhoni added.
