No ‘Mega Auction’ for IPL 2025? Shah Rukh Khan Gets Strong Support from Kavya Maran

Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner Shah Rukh Khan opposed holding a mega auction ahead of the IPL 2025 season during a meeting at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on Wednesday, as reported by Cricbuzz. SRK advocated for a smaller auction, leading to a heated discussion with Punjab Kings co-owner Ness Wadia. However, Shah Rukh Khan received support from Kavya Maran, the owner of Sunrisers Hyderabad. Maran expressed her disagreement with the idea of a mega auction in a statement to Cricbuzz, highlighting the time and investment required to develop a squad and mature younger players. She pointed out that it took Abhishek Sharma three years to become consistent and suggested that similar examples exist across other teams.

Kolkata Knight Riders were the IPL 2024 champions, with Sunrisers Hyderabad as the runners-up.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) stated that it would forward the recommendations from all ten IPL franchise owners to the tournament’s governing council for consideration before finalizing player regulations for IPL 2025. The BCCI’s meeting with the franchise owners covered various topics, including mega auctions, player retention, and the impact player rule.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah mentioned that the Board organized a constructive dialogue with the franchise owners regarding player regulations and other commercial aspects. The BCCI will review these recommendations with the IPL Governing Council before finalizing the player regulations.
