Turkey coach praises ‘Turkish spirit’, highlights Real Madrid talent Arda Guler following Euro 2024 elimination

Despite their quarter-final exit, Turkey matched their record of three wins at a Euros tournament in Euro 2024. Turkey coach Vincenzo Montella highlighted his team’s performance, stating that their campaign has earned them respect after a 2-1 defeat to the Netherlands. Samet Akaydin scored Turkey’s goal, assisted by Arda Guler, but goals from Stefan de Vrij and a Murt Muldur own goal sealed their fate. Montella praised his team’s spirit and expressed optimism for Turkey’s future reputation in international football.

“I am proud of the spirit and performance the team showed throughout this European Championship. Despite the defeat, the Turkish people love us,” Montella told reporters. He emphasized that Turkey’s showing at Euro 2024 will change perceptions and garner more respect for the team moving forward.
Montella refrained from dwelling on regrets, instead focusing on the positives. “It’s important to highlight what we did well. We won three games at a Euros, matching Turkey’s record,” he added.
Real Madrid’s Arda Guler emerged as a standout for Turkey, contributing significantly with assists and goals throughout the tournament. Montella praised the 19-year-old’s performance and predicted a bright future ahead for him.
“He had a great Euros. He’s not even 20 yet, and this experience will undoubtedly make him a better player,” Montella concluded.
