“R Ashwin Stuns with Explosive 20-Ball-45 as Opener in TNPL”

From Spin Wizard to Batting Sensation: Ashwin's Power-Packed Performance Leaves Fans Awestruck"

Ravichandran Ashwin, renowned for his spinning prowess, recently showcased his batting skills in a standout performance during the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). Playing for the Dindigul Dragons against the Chepauk Super Gillies, Ashwin opened the innings and delivered a blazing 45 runs off just 20 balls. His explosive knock featured 3 fours and 4 sixes, boasting an impressive strike rate of 225. Despite the Dragons’ defeat in a rain-affected match, Ashwin’s performance captivated fans and went viral on social media.

Ashwin’s Reflections on MS Dhoni’s Influence

Earlier, in an interview with RevSportz, Ashwin shared insights about his early days under MS Dhoni’s leadership at Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He candidly admitted that Dhoni probably didn’t recognize him initially. However, it was Dhoni’s faith in Ashwin that allowed him to flourish as a powerplay bowler.

“I think Dhoni, for the first year, did not know I existed. Or maybe he knew but didn’t really engage—that’s Dhoni. I have known him closely for almost 15-17 years, and his approach remains unchanged since 2008-09,” Ashwin said.

Reflecting on a game in 2010, Ashwin recalled, “Dhoni was hit by Shane Bond on his arm at Eden Gardens, and he went out of the side. I had started the IPL reasonably well and was bowling later in the innings alongside Muttiah Muralitharan. When Dhoni returned as captain, he immediately reinstated me in the powerplay, using me against top batsmen like Adam Gilchrist.”

Dhoni’s consistent belief in Ashwin’s abilities played a crucial role in his development. “He kept it very simple when giving instructions and used me in key moments, even when I played for India. That belief was fascinating,” Ashwin added.

Ashwin’s recent TNPL performance, combined with his reflections on Dhoni’s leadership, highlights his versatility and resilience as a cricketer, continuing to impress both with the ball and bat.
