Rohit Sharma Quashes Retirement Rumors: ‘You’ll See Me Playing At Least For…’
India Captain Dismisses Speculation, Confirms Future Plans Amidst Cheers

Rohit Sharma recently put to rest any retirement rumors, sparking cheers from fans when questioned about his future in cricket. The India captain, who led the team to a T20 World Cup victory in Barbados on June 29, announced after the thrilling seven-run win over South Africa in the final that he would no longer play T20 internationals. This announcement led to speculation about his potential retirement from all white-ball formats, including ODIs.
Addressing the retirement rumors at a promotional event in the US, Rohit stated, “I don’t look that far ahead. So clearly, you will see me playing at least for a while.” This response, captured in a widely circulated social media video, reassured fans of his continued presence in the sport.
Reflecting on his T20I farewell, Rohit expressed, “This was my last (T20I) game. No better time to say goodbye to this format. I’ve loved every moment of this. I started my India career playing this format. Winning the Cup was something I wanted badly. It’s hard to put into words how emotional this moment is for me. I’m happy we crossed the line.”
Rohit leaves the T20I stage as its leading run-scorer, with an impressive 4231 runs across 159 appearances. His legacy includes the record for the most centuries (five) in T20 internationals.
Additionally, BCCI secretary Jay Shah recently confirmed that Rohit will lead India in the ICC Champions Trophy, scheduled for February-March next year. This announcement further solidifies his role in the future of Indian cricket.
