“Rohit Sharma ‘Runs To Hit Washington Sundar’, Video Leaves Fans in Splits”
India captain Rohit Sharma remains in the spotlight for his on-field antics. This time, it wasn’t his usual witty one-liner caught on the stump mic that amused everyone, but a comical act from the skipper. During the second ODI against Sri Lanka, Washington Sundar pulled back twice in a row while preparing to bowl. On the first occasion, Rohit, positioned at first slip, stayed calm. However, when Sundar hesitated a second time, Rohit humorously ran towards him as if to hit him, causing laughter all around.
Indian spinners, led by Washington Sundar, tested the Sri Lankan batters’ skills, but the visitors managed to post a respectable 240 for nine in the second ODI in Colombo. Sundar (3/30) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/33) excelled on a pitch that offered significant assistance, following Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka’s decision to bat first.
The crucial breakthrough for India came from Mohammed Siraj, who had the in-form Pathum Nissanka caught behind by KL Rahul. A perfect outswinger just outside off-stump led to Nissanka’s downfall. A recovery followed, with Avishka Fernando (40) and Kusal Mendis (30) adding 74 runs for the second wicket. However, once the spinners took over, the scoring rate slowed, and the Sri Lankans resorted to nudging the ball for runs.
Fernando fell to a leading edge caught by Washington Sundar, while Mendis missed a sweep and was given out leg before. Sadeera Samarawickrama, tied down by the spinners, attempted a big shot off Axar Patel but was caught by Virat Kohli.
Asalanka showed resilience against the spinners but was eventually caught off Washington Sundar. With Sri Lanka at 136 for six, young Dunith Wellalage and Kamindu Mendis forged a crucial 72-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Wellalage attacked Axar and Siraj, hitting a six each, while Kamindu, dropped on nine by Shivam Dube off Kuldeep, played some powerful shots.
Wellalage’s dismissal by Kuldeep didn’t deter Kamindu, who continued to play aggressively, helping Sri Lanka surpass their total from the first ODI, which ended in a tie. The Indian bowlers struggled in the last five overs, allowing Sri Lanka to add 44 vital runs.
