Sanju Samson Shines with 110m Six as India Clinch Series Against Zimbabwe

In a commanding performance, vice-captain Sanju Samson led India to victory with a stellar knock of 58 runs off 45 balls, including an extraordinary 110-metre six, in the fifth T20I against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club. India secured the series with a 4-1 win after defeating Zimbabwe by 42 runs in the final match.

Samson’s innings was a blend of elegance and power, marked by a boundary and four sixes. The highlight of Samson’s performance was a colossal 110-metre six off Brandon Mavuta’s delivery, which soared out of the ground. This stunning shot exemplified his skill and timing

Despite losing early wickets, India managed to post a competitive total of 167/6, thanks to a late surge. Shivam Dube played a quick cameo of 26 runs, while Rinku Singh added valuable runs with his powerful hitting, ensuring 30 runs came off the last two overs.

In response, Zimbabwe’s chase was derailed early by fast-bowler Mukesh Kumar, who delivered a career-best performance with figures of 4-22. He struck twice with the new ball, dismissing Wesley Madhevere and Brian Bennett, putting Zimbabwe on the back foot.

Despite efforts from Dion Myers and Tadiwanashe Marumani, who built a 44-run partnership, Zimbabwe’s innings collapsed from 85/3 to 94/7. Eventually, they were all out for 125 in 18.3 overs.

Washington Sundar’s dismissal of Marumani and Dube’s key wickets further dismantled Zimbabwe’s middle order. A mix-up between Sikandar Raza and Johnathan Campbell, leading to Raza’s run-out, compounded Zimbabwe’s troubles. Abhishek Sharma and Tushar Deshpande also chipped in with wickets, while Mukesh Kumar sealed the victory with his remaining two scalps.

Earlier in the match, Yashasvi Jaiswal provided a brisk start for India, hitting consecutive sixes off Sikandar Raza’s deliveries. However, Zimbabwe’s Blessing Muzarabani was effective with the ball, claiming 2/19 in four overs. Despite some impressive catches, Zimbabwe’s fielding lapses, including three dropped chances, proved costly throughout the series.

Sanju Samson’s match-winning performance and Mukesh Kumar’s outstanding bowling were pivotal in securing India’s series win against Zimbabwe. The victory not only showcased India’s depth in talent but also highlighted areas for improvement in Zimbabwe’s fielding and batting.
