“Shaheen Afridi Shares Cryptic Post Amid ‘Misbehaviour’ Allegations”

Shaheen Afridi Posts Cryptic Message Amid ‘Misbehaviour’ Allegations

Shaheen Afridi, the prominent Pakistan fast bowler, has become the center of controversy following reports that he allegedly ‘misbehaved’ with head coach Gary Kirsten and other coaching staff members during the England tour and the T20 World Cup 2024. The reports indicated that the team managers were aware of these incidents but chose not to take any disciplinary action against Afridi.

Despite the seriousness of these allegations, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has remained silent on the matter. In response to the swirling rumors, Shaheen Afridi took to social media, sharing a video of himself practicing in the nets accompanied by a cryptic caption: “Rise Above.” This post has led to speculation about his perspective on the accusations.

The media in Pakistan has extensively reported on Afridi’s alleged misconduct. Sources revealed to Geo News that Afridi’s behavior towards the coaching staff was inappropriate during the recent tours, but no measures were taken to address his actions. “Maintaining discipline in the team was the responsibility of the managers, which is why it is being investigated why no action was taken against Shaheen despite his misbehaviour,” the report mentioned.

In a related development, the PCB announced that Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz had been informed that their services were no longer needed in the national selection committee. Razzaq served on both the men’s and women’s selection committees, while Wahab was a selector for the men’s team and also held the position of senior team manager. Wahab’s removal was attributed to disciplinary issues, and he was dismissed alongside team manager Rana Mansoor.

The PCB’s frequent changes in top selectors over the past four years have been notable. Six different individuals—Wahab, Mohammad Wasim, Shahid Afridi, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Haroon Rashid, and Misbah-ul-Haq—have held the position of top selector for brief periods.

Sources have indicated that Wahab and Mansoor were involved in providing undue favors to certain players, leading to their inclusion in the team despite underperformance. This has added another layer of controversy to the ongoing saga within the PCB.

As the PCB continues to navigate these internal challenges, the cricketing community awaits further developments and official statements regarding the allegations against Shaheen Afridi.
