Home Minister Amit Shah also conveyed his sympathies, noting Gaekwad’s role in enhancing Indian cricket. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah labeled Gaekwad’s passing as a “profound loss,” praising his courage, wisdom, and dedication.
The BCCI highlighted Gaekwad’s solid technique and resilience, particularly noting his memorable 81 against West Indies in 1976 and his 201 against Pakistan in 1983. Gaekwad’s extensive domestic record included over 12,000 runs in first-class cricket.
Ramiz Raja, former Pakistan captain, remembered Gaekwad as a “gallant” person who fought valiantly against cancer.
