MS Dhoni’s Significant IPL Future Decision: “Will Take A Call Once…”

MS Dhoni has indicated that he will make a decision on his IPL future once the new rules for IPL 2025 are formalized. Speaking at a promotional event in Hyderabad, Dhoni noted that the rules regarding player retention and other regulations are still being finalized. He emphasized that his decision would be made with the best interest of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in mind.

Dhoni’s future in the IPL has been a topic of much speculation, particularly following CSK’s fifth-place finish in IPL 2024 and the appointment of Ruturaj Gaikwad as captain. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been in discussions with franchise owners about various aspects of the mega auction rules, including player retention and the Impact Player rule. These discussions are ongoing, with recommendations set to be reviewed by the IPL Governing Council.

In a separate comment, Dhoni named Jasprit Bumrah as his favorite bowler, praising his performance in the T20 World Cup where Bumrah was named Player of the Tournament. Dhoni refrained from naming a favorite batsman, stating his preference for focusing on overall team success rather than individual players.
